Today

today was a hectic day in my life .... i left my room at nine in the morn and havent returned till now .. its past 1 am now... there were two labs today .. one lecture in between them ... one lecture before the first lab and one at 9 am ....
and why am i in the lab at this hour?
well i have a presentation of SIP (signal and image processing) tomorrow and its about ECG filtering .. as the net doent work in the hostels .. so i am here working on the presentaion ... shahji has left :(
so as i had nothing to do to take my mind off for a minutes , so i thought about writing something up

today was this wierd lecture about Paraigm shift .. by some dude ... dint get what he was saying :D
but the key to sucess is

Science Marathon

Yesterday was the science marathon... we decided to take part at the very last moment and reached the place just after the time... It was fun ... we reached the last round ahead of everyone else and there we had to make a model out of paper, icecream sticks, straws and tape. The criteria was to make such a model that would stay in the air longest. We managed to make something nice and something we were sure that would last in the air the most ..

Well then something happened ... we were third, second and finally fourth .. thanks to Science Society who have to care so much about transperancy that they dont even stick to their rules. We dint win ... that doesnt bother me ... what really bothers me is that S cube was third !!

Newayz it was loads of fun ... we enjoyed alot .. and by alot i mean alot

my mishtake

Yesterday, we had the second mid term exam of operations manangement. The paper was a wreck. Two out of the three questions were such that there could be found no definate solution to. The MCQs part, well cant say nething about that till the scores have come.

The whole hall was talking in the end ... i also did "talk" on 2 MCQs but i am ashamed about it. This is not for the reason that its a sin .. but it is intellectual dishonesty. I hope not to pull such an act again.

and it happens ....

well ... after a very long time .. about 8 monts .. i finally had a haircut :D .. yaa and now i look like a small school going kid :/
basically ppl tell me i look fine .. but i liked my previous look ... now i look more like a cadet than a student of the hot and happening CS engineering :D

Eid .. Holidays and the rest of the crap

Eid came and went as usual ... nothing special this time as well ... eid used to be such an awaited event when we were kids .. but it no longer makes any sense .. the same ritual is followed each year ... the namaz and then the greeeting sessions ... that are really tiresome :/

i came back to giki on tuesday, the 8th of Nov .. to work on my final year project and a few other things that are still pending. I watched the 'Kindom of heaven' .. a really nice movies .. the thing i liked about it was that they have no tampered with the history much .. and i am reading Da Vinci too .. hope to finish it soon ... chao

Celebrate life ... it may not be there for u long

The sun rose on 8th October ... but for many ppl  .. it would be the last sun rise they ever seee... arnd 9 in the morn .. there is an earthquake that changed the life of the whole nation ... not to mention changing the entire course for ppl who were directly afftected by it .

The time i was still in my bed .. i jumped out and ran out of the hostel in the fastest sprint i could sprint ... thank God it gave us time to save ourself ... although nothing fell ... but still it was a moment of mixed enthusiam and fear .... i went back to sleep ... and woke up arnd 2 unaware what the jolt might have done to so may ppl ....

My Conclusion: We havent signed a contract and thats the worst part of it ... we havent been given a date of return but we know we bought a return ticket ... we are planning our lives as if we will all live to be 80 or 90 ... cherishing life .... i dont object to that ... but lets take a moment of slience and ponder .. if we were to be lifted right now ... are we prepared ??

Rubik's Cube

The Rubik's Cube, for those dumbasses that dont know, is a cube ( as the name shows) which has a different color on each face and it can be rotated along two axis and blah blah

Well i was into solving one over the Naran Trip but i reached only 2 faces. I need a Rubik's cube :(

Naran Trip .. The aftermath

Over the last weekend we had a trip to Naran, Kaghan and Lake Saiful Malook. This place is really worth seeeing as its natural beauty lies undisturbed. Specially Saiful Malook is a masterpiece. Cant be described in words, u have to see to know whats it like. The whole trip was loads of fun and i thank God i returned in one piece coz the roads that leads to these wonders arent that developed and no one but the local people can drive on it.

We had a great number of laugh session all the time over the trip :D These will be one of the most cherished moments on my life here in GIKI.

I am FUBAR at the moment .. so details tomorrow

Experts at SophosLabs, Sophos's global network of virus and spam analysis centers, have warned users about a Trojan horse which tries to interrupt surfing of adult websites by displaying messages from the Koran.
"Unlike other malware, it appears this Trojan horse isn't trying to steal money or confidential information, but acting as a moral guardian instead - blocking viewing of websites it determines are unsavory," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos. "Of course, it's possible for the Trojan horse to make mistakes and block sites which are not pornographic - such as medical sites, or social sites designed for teenagers."
The Yusufali-A Trojan horse monitors the websites Windows users are visiting by examining the title bar of the active window. If the Trojan finds a word it doesn't like (such as "teen", "xx", "sex") it minimizes the window so the user cannot see its content and displays a message from the Koran instead, which says -

Yusufali: Know, therefore, that there is no god but Allah, and ask forgiveness for thy fault, and for the men and women who believe: for Allah knows how ye move about and how ye dwell in your homes.

Massachusetts bins Microsoft Office

The State of Massachusetts has unveiled a plan to replace Microsoft Office with a software suite that supports the open standards set by the Oasis standards body.  Massachusetts' chief information officer Peter Quinn said in a document posted on the State's website (PDF download available here) that the State seeks in particular to embrace Open Document Format for Office Applications, or OpenDocument.
